Easy Upma Recipe- Bachelor Recipes For 3-4 People
Easy Upma Recipe Ingredients:
- Oil/Ghee
- Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
- Mustard Seeds (Rai)
- Salt- 1 teaspoon
- Kadipatta/Curry Leaves- 6-8 leaves
- Finely chopped Adrak (Ginger)- 1/4 teaspoon [Optional]
- 2 Big Onions- finely chopped
- 1 Big Tomato- finely chopped
- 6-7 Dark Green Chillies
- Half Carrot- finely chopped [Optional]
- Peas- 15-20 [Optional]
- Corn kernels (pieces)- 15-20 [Optional]
- Udad Daal- 1 teaspoon [Optional]
- Coriander leaves- finely chopped
- 2 bowls of Rava (Bowl that we use to serve Daal or Kheer at home)
- 6 bowls of Water (Use the same size bowl as used for Rava)
Easy Upma Recipe Process:
- Take a Kadhai/Pan and put it on a stove
- Turn on the stove and let the Kadhai heat for 1-2 minutes
- Keep the flame on low and add 2 bowls of Rava
- Keep stirring and roast Rava properly
- Roast till the color turn into light brown
- Take out the roasted Rava in a plate
- Add 2 tablespoon of oil/ghee in Kadhai
- Let it heat a bit and then add a pinchful of Cumin & Mustard seeds
- Add a pinch of Hing/asafoetida if available (Optional)
- Add Udad Daal & Ginger
- Once the Udad Daal color starts changing a bit, add Kadipatta, Chilli, Onion, Carrot, & Peas
- Let everything fry properly
- Now add chopped tomato and corn
- Again fry it
- Now pay attention to the Math!
- 3 bowls of water for 1 bowl of Rava
- Since we have take. 2 bowls of Rava, let’s add 6 bowls of water in Kadhai
- Turn the flame from low to high now
- Once you see water bubbles, add 1 teaspoon of salt
- Taste the water to understand the balance of salt. If needed, add more salt
- Let the water boil for 30 seconds and turn the flame to low again
- Now start stirring the water and simultaneously add Rava gradually
- This is a crucial step! Don’t pour entire 2 bowls of Rava in one shot!
- Add gradually and keep stirring & mixing the Rava with water
- Your job is avoid any lumps- great muscle excercise!
- Once you mix 2 bowls of Rava properly, add chopped coriander leaves and let the Upma heat on low flame for 2 minutes
- Serve fresh!

No! You must roast Rava. I know it can be time consuming. But, you can always roast Rava in your spare time and use whenever you want. Using Rava directly can make the Upma sticky and lumpy. Besides, it will be uncooked and can cause indigestion.
Can I skip chilli in Upma?
Yes of course! It’s better to avoid chilli; if you have acidity or any other stomach problem. Skipping chilli won’t affect the taste that much.
Is Upma good for weight loss?
